Steps to Take Before Your Trip
Before you leave on this adventure, we recommend the following:

                 • Check with the CDC for their recommendations for the countries you’ll be
visiting. You can contact them online at http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel or by phone
                    at 1-800-232-4636.

                 • Have a medical checkup with your doctor at least 6 weeks before your trip.

                 • Pick up any necessary medications, both prescription and over-the-counter.

                 • Have a dental and/or eye checkup. (Recommended, but less urgent)

               No Vaccines Required

At the time of writing there were no required vaccines for this trip. The CDC recommends
that all travelers be up to date on their routine vaccinations; look into basic travel vaccines
like Hepatitis A and Typhoid; and consider getting a yellow fever vaccination—but these are
suggestions only. However, this could change in future so we encourage you to check with the
CDC yourself before meeting with your doctor.

               Suggested Only: Yellow Fever Vaccination
Since the yellow fever vaccine is not common in the U.S., we’d like to call out a few facts:

                 • At time of writing the vaccine is suggested only and not required by Peru.

                 • Some healthcare professionals do not recommend this vaccine for people over 65 or for
people with certain pre-exisiting health conditions. Please talk to your doctor before you

                    medical history.

                 • Because it is relatively uncommon, the vaccine can go through periodic shortages or
have limited availability. If you decide to get the vaccine, you may need to go to a special
travel clinic or schedule your appointment well in advance. The cost can be expensive
and is rarely covered by insurance, so be sure to ask beforehand.

Yellow Fever Card to enter the country, we still suggest that you bring it with you if you
have one. That way if the government of Peru makes a last-minute change to their entry
policy, you’ll have the information close at hand. If you don’t get the vaccination, than
we suggest you bring a letter from your doctor stating that they advised you against it.
