If you’re using frequent flyer miles, pay for your
38 ticket and use the miles for your companion
When you pay for your own ticket and use your frequent flyer miles for someone
else, you get one reward ticket, and you still get credited the miles for your
          flight. It’s a double win!
39 Sign up for a Trusted Traveler program

Save some valuable travel time by registering with one of the services
operated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security such as Global Entry,
NEXUS, and SENTRI. They o er benefits such as express lines and paperless

procedures to pre-screened members. If you join Global Entry, NEXUS, or
SENTRI, you will receive a “known traveler number” that you can use in airline
reservations to receive TSA PreCheck™. Not only will you gain access to shorter
security check lines, you won’t have to remove your shoes or take electronics
          from your bag.

Cope with motion sickness by choosing
          40the right seat

If you’re prone to motion sickness, prepare for it ahead of time by picking the
right spot on the plane. It’s typically best to sit in the front or over a wing.
Similar rules apply when traveling by train or bus: pick a seat near the front
(facing forward) next to the window. On a ship, the best place is in the front or
middle of the ship, or on the upper deck.
41 Where you put your luggage lock matters

Proper lock placement can mean the di erence between getting a

suitcase at the end of your journey and getting a plastic bag containing what’s

le of your personal e ects. Luggage zippers are designed to come together and
provide a slot where your lock can slip through. Remember that luggage locks are
not designed to keep people out of your bag, but rather to keep your contents in.
42 Save your boarding pass to your mobile wallet

When using your wireless device to show your boarding pass, save it to your
mobile wallet in advance of your trip. Or take a picture of it and store it in your photo
file. That way, you can quickly retrieve it in case there is an issue with airport WiFi.
