                       In terms of safety, it makes sense to leave your expensive clothing and
              jewelry at home. No need to tempt thieves. But even more important, it would
              be in poor taste to flaunt your relative wealth in situations where poverty and
              social disparities are evident.
              94       Keep your distance—or don’t.


                       Did you know that social scientists sort the world into “contact cultures”
              (like South America, the Middle East, and Southern Europe) and “non-contact
              cultures” (Northern Europe, North America, and Asia)? Find out how the people of
              your destination perceive the idea of personal space. Then, you are less likely to
              become angry when a crowd rushes the box office in China, or when the person
              behind you at the ATM in Argentina seems to be breathing down your neck.
