their farm. Then, you’ll meet with the proprietors of the local butcher shop for lunch and
conversation.
Local Families in Ivalo : Meet with a Sami family on their reindeer farm on Day 15, and take
the opportunity to ask questions about the importance of reindeer and their role in Sami
peoples’ daily lives. You can take this time to discuss how they herd and care for their reindeer,
as well as gain an intimate view on how the Sami have changed over time. In an even smaller
group tonight, you’ll enjoy a Home-Hosted Dinner. As you get to know your hosts, consider
how their home and lifestyle differ from those of the Sami people you met earlier today.
Rehabilitation Specialist in Oslo : On Day 4, you’ll learn about a Controversial Topic: The
divided attitudes toward Norway’s justice system. Norway’s prison system is focused on
rehabilitation rather than punishment, and its prisoners enjoy shorter sentences and more
amenities than most of their counterparts around the world. We’ll meet with a rehabilitation
specialist of a non-profit that helps ex-convicts reintegrate into society to learn more about
this complex issue.
