Japan: Fushimi-Inari. Located at the base of
Mount Inari, this eighth-century structure

built to honor Inari, the god of rice. Then,
bPɪWW bT_YP^^ _SP ^T_Pɪ^ XLRYTʭNPY_ _`YYPW ZQ
LY P^_TXL_PO ]PO torii gates, which line
a 2.5-mile route up to the mountain. As you
explore Fushimi-Inari, you’ll see hundreds
of statues of foxes, which are thought of as
Inari’s messengers.
After, we visit the sprawling Nijo Castle
.ZX[WPc bSZ^P R]Z`YO^ ^[LY YPL]Wd " LN]P^
and are home to multiple palaces, gardens,
and water features. Among the most storied
of its properties is Ninomaru Palace, which
