lunch en route. Slavonia is the easternmost
province of Croatia, bounded by the Drava,
Sava, and Danube rivers. Despite its history
as part of a Roman province, Slavonia (as
its name suggests) has been a Slavic state
for more than 13 centuries. In 1745, Slavonia
bL^ OPNWL]PO L ^PXT L`_ZYZXZ`^ VTYROZX
belonging to both the Kingdom of Croatia
and the Kingdom of Hungary. Slavonia and
Croatia merged in 1868 and became part of
D`RZ^WLaTL TY $ # BSPY .]ZL_TL OPNWL]PO T_^
independence in 1991, a struggle for Slavonia
ensued between Croatia and Serbia—which
wasn’t too surprising. Slavonia’s fertile
agricultural lands, rich hunting grounds,

Day 10 A Day in the Life of Karanac village
• Travel to Zagreb

800,000 people that has been Croatia’s
