• Quick-dry material: If you like to hand-wash your clothes, bring socks and underwear,
and even shirts and pants, made of silk, synthetics, or a cotton-synthetic blend that will
dry out overnight. Quick-drying fabrics are useful even if you don’t hand-wash; with the
humidity in the Amazon, it takes a while for items to dry.

                 • Footwear: You’ll be on your feet a lot during the trip, and walking over some rough and

                 • Walking sticks: Many past travelers have recommended bringing a folding walking stick
or folding ski pole for the extensions. (On the main trip, local guides will provide walking
sticks and rain ponchos for use in rainforest.) This is very useful when exploring Inca
ruins and jungle trails that don’t have handrails. In Machu Picchu, walking sticks are
technically not permitted. However, our Trip Leaders are often able to negotiate with
park employees to allow walking sticks with rubber tips (as they cause less damage to the
ground of the ancient sites). Therefore, we suggest you bring this type of walking stick.
If you do not bring a walking stick, you may be able to purchase one onsite.

                 • One-time laundry service: During your Amazon journey you will have complementary
laundry service onboard your vessel for a small amount of laundry.
