A local shop owner : On Day
2, stop in at a local meat shop where you’ll have the
opportunity to chat with the owner. Learn about his business practices and
the importance of his shop to the local community.
Salmon farmers in Bergen : On Day 8, you’ll visit Oygarden salmon farm,
where you’ll learn firsthand about Bergen’s agricultural staple. We’ll take
part in a conversation with a local farmer. You might discuss with these local
farmers how they combat stereotypes surrounding the “safety” of farmed fish,
and how they are trying to change the world’s outlook on the practice.
A Sami family on their reindeer farm : Enjoy coffee and tea with a Sami
family on their reindeer farm on Day 15 in Ivalo, and take the opportunity
to ask questions about the importance of reindeer and their role in
Sami peoples’ daily lives. You’ll gain an intimate perspective on how the
Sami community has changed over time, faced hardships of disease and
displacement, and fought adversity.
A family in Ivalo : In an even smaller group on Day 15, you’ll enjoy a taste of
Finnish culture and engage in lively conversation over a dinner of freshly-
prepared, home-cooked dishes. As you get to know your hosts, consider
how their home and lifestyle differ from those of the Sami people you met
earlier today.
On Day 5, admire the ancient wooden Stave Church of Borgund.
