Wear a wedding ring, whether you’re
        67married or not
In many countries, married women are more readily accepted—and respected—
than women who are not. You’ll find that a cheap gold band on your ring finger
may help you fend off Romeos. And if you’re married, replacing your wedding
band with an inexpensive version will spare you heartache if it gets lost or stolen.
68 Look confident and walk with purpose

As the saying goes, don’t let them see you sweat. Never have the
bemused “I think I’m lost” tourist look. Act like you know where you’re going,
even if you don’t. Consult maps, etc., before leaving the ship or hotel, and if
you need directions, stop in a shop rather than asking a stranger on the street.
        69 Blend in

If you don’t want to attract unwanted attention or look like an easy
mark, pay attention to local appearances. In most of the world, for instance,
women rarely wear shorts. Europeans tend to dress a more formally, so leave
your super-casual tees at home. Cover your arms, legs, and cleavage in Muslim
countries. Wear loose clothing in India. And avoid clothing that has sayings or
slogans in English emblazoned on it.
